Letters from Paul

About

I am a native of Shreveport, Louisiana.  From my early years at Brookwood Baptist Church, I was introduced to the gospel of Jesus Christ.  It was in seventh grade that my youth minister sat down with me and explained the glorious plan of salvation that God had provided.  I knew that God’s call into a relationship was given to me, and I responded to that call.  The journey from that point grew more interesting as the years passed by.

After high school, I attended Louisiana Tech University and majored in architecture.  Upon graduation, I had the opportunity to work for CRSS architects in Houston, Texas.  During the next two years I dove into my new career.  It was exactly what I wanted to do.  I was traveling and working with the most advanced computers and software as I continually honed my skills in architecture through the use of computer animation and visualization.  It seemed that all was going well, but there was still this emptiness in my life.  After two years, I partnered with two friends and began a new company, Zero Gravity.  Zero Gravity was an animation firm in The Woodlands, Texas.  Things could not be going better.  At 25, I was living the dream.  A successful company, nice car, beautiful wife, and many more opportunities on the horizon, but God had a different plan.  My life was about to change drastically.  It was becoming very clear to me that God had a plan for me which had nothing to do with architecture.  The question was, “How do I begin to make this change?”

I sold my company, went back to school, and basically started over again.  While attending Houston Baptist University, I accepted a music/youth internship at Humble Area’s First Baptist Church.  Upon completion of a Church Music degree, I then enrolled at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and took a full time position at Woodridge Baptist Church.  I served there for seven years as youth minister while I completed my MDiv.  Upon completion, through the help of Woodridge Baptist Church and Senior Pastor, Greg Wallace, I am now serving as the pastor of Summer Creek Baptist Church, a church plant and campus of Woodridge Baptist Church.  I am married to my high school sweetheart, Ramona, and we have three children.

I cannot explain why God has been so good to me.  I identify with King David in his prayer when he asked God this question, “Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?” (2 Samuel 7:18)  Despite the mistakes, sin, and poor choices I have made, God has been good to me.  He has brought me through it all and continues to be patient with me.  I love my God.  I love to serve Him.  I love to learn more about Him.  I love being a pastor.  Now, I am living the dream.  I am doing what God designed me and called me to do.
